Dave,
Nice photo.
Have you tried Photobucket, or Imageshack?
To the best of my knowledge, they limit their cropping to a relatively acceptable level. You've seen the size of my photos (Photobucket). They're much larger than yours.
Not that we're comparing size or anything.
Photobucket is free by the way.

Bob,

What pixel size are your photos? The ones I posted (5100 x 7019) are almost twice the size my 10 mp Pentax can take (2592 x 3872). I shrunk them down to fit here.

I tried Photobucket and Flickr. Both automatically shrink the pictures. Haven't tried Imageshack, but would be surprised if they took it full sized without shrinking.

Last week there were three bald eagles hunting on my property, two adults and one adolescent.

I took this shot on the fly but I liked how the wings were there and not there at the same time. Only the talons and the tail are really solid looking.

Hey Mike, that is an interesting picture. I have never been where I saw an eagle while I had a camera in hand.

Hi Dave,

Lots of eagles here.

Between the coyotes, eagles and hawks, we have to keep an eye on our little dogs, cat and chickens...

So far we have lost 3 cats and one dog to coyotes. The other day one grabbed up my last cat right in front of me. I charged the coyote and he dropped the cat. 30 seconds later and the cat would have been toast. We have our own little Wild Kingdom here.

Mike, We have bald eagles here, but not an everyday thing to see. Also have coyotes, wolves, bears and other things, but I live in town and rarely see them. I have friends in the country not far from here that have varmint problems, especially with coyotes and hawks. My mom's chickens were thinned out frequently by hawks, weasels, raccoon and stray dogs. Haven't lost any cats to predators, though.

Neat pics of the Eagles. We get them occasionally here, as well as some large owls. :D
Unfortunately, too rare for my liking.

I found out that cows don't like cameras, when you pull it out they get nervous and soon start running away. Silly cows I'm NOT Bob, I'm the good guy! I have never tipped a cow

I will post the bottom one later in color and you can judge which you like better.

I love the first B&W pic you posted. As I look at it I can hear crows in the back ground, and something eerie is about to happen or be revealed.

All:
Been battling back pain a lot recently so I have to apologize for my inactivity. It's been very frustrating, because I have lost time at work and I can't stand on my feet for more than a couple of hours, also the most frustrating thing is I promised some projects to fellow DIY'ers and I haven't been able to finish them. Plus the pain killers really suck, I don't recommend working with power tools while taking them. 3hp 10" Radial arm saw is out of the question, my son however is helping and seems to like the idea of working with me on audio stuff...I know i like working with him. Anyway, this was about pics, sorry BWhere

Here is a pic I took and warms me up a bit. Tired of being cold B_GAh! come on spring!

How about both. Do you put your pics on photobucket without shrinking them? If so, try comparing the pixel size of the ones on your screen right out of the camera, and the ones on photobucket (right click on pic and then left click on properties to get the size). I'd bet the ones on photobucket have been greatly reduced. You'd only notice it if you zoomed in on a small part of the pic. Most online storage programs reduce the size so it don't take up as much storage space. This is fine for most things, but does prevent one from checking out fine detail when zooming in.

I did the close up on my Sunflower pic from the scanner, not online, then posted it. This shows how much detail is there when zooming in on a small area. I can assure you that your Nikon and my Pentax cannot put out this large of pixel count as the old medium format camera can, thus they can't do as big of a picture. Just no place online I know of that stores things that big. BTW, the print detail, contrast and tones, without anything digitally copied, is awesome.

At any rate, the point was to show how good photography could be with pre 1950's equipment. We have gained since then, as modest cost equipment has greatly improved, but it's impressive what could be done with top level equipment from back then.

Q,

Nice pics. Now, tell me, did you get help from Mrs. Q, or is this entirely your own doing?

I know what it's like to have continuous pain getting in the way. A real drag and serious crimp in ones lifestyle. :(
Hope things improve quickly.

Hi Dave B_~!@
Nope, no help from the "real photog" in the family. I like to think I have an "eye" for things. Which is the number one reason I started this thread. I welcome everyone's take on pictures (specially yours mate). We have a lot of creative and honest folks here. It's great to not be in a "vacuum" and welcome all critiques, be it what you hear, or what you see.

Thanks Dave I know you know what it's like, All of my work surfaces are abnormally high to aid me in what I want to do and I'm trying my best to stay away from the meds =;
How is that wee surprise working out for you \:D/ You know it was purely selfish on our part. We wanted to see what a "Ole-Time Photog can do"

I don't use any more meds than I have to. I'm down to about half of what I was taking three years ago, and no more steroids at all. Oain is a bit worse than three years ago, but my head is clearer.

That "surprise" is Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. I have been looking it over. I also have Gimp and Paint.net. What I'm finding is that they are all very similar with each having a few things the others lack. I don't think any one of them stands out as superior. Having all three allows me to have more options, which is always nice. It'll take me a while to figure out all the options. I plan on doing some more pic taking when warm weather finally gets here. I'll be taking the Pentax with me on some motorcycle runs this year, also, which might have some possibilities. A lot depends on how I feel this summer. Last year was not one of my better ones.
